Pardon our French…
BUT WE FRICKIN’ LOVE MAKIN’ MACS!!!
It started by accident and became a beautiful dream!
Our founder and baker, Emily stumbled upon baking these tricky cookies in January of 2019 and hasn’t stopped since! Her friends and family began begging for them as they hosted parties and events, and countless of batches and several orders later, she decided to create Tredici Macarons! Emily is a self-taught, licensed baker from Chicago who has a passion for turning every order into something special. She prides herself in the time and attention she puts into her baking to ensure her customers are happy with each order!
“Macarons take a lot of patience to make,” says Emily, “but that’s why they are so beautiful and fun! You don’t see them everyday and they feel like an extra special treat whenever you have them.”
So, why Tredici?
“Tredici means 13 in Italian,” Emily explains. “I come from a big, Italian family and my grandma was the best baker I know. Although I never baked a macaron until after she passed away, running this business reminds me of baking with her as a little kid and makes me feel close to her.”
As for the number 13, there is an Italian saying, “fare tredici” (“to do thirteen”), which translates to “to hit the jackpot” and we believe customers will feel like they’ve hit the jackpot when they taste a Tredici Macaron.
“My intention is to put the same amount of love and devotion into baking for others as she always did.”
Mac FAQs
What is a macaron?
Macarons are small meringue cookies that have filling sandwiched between them. The shells are colored and sometimes flavored, before being baked and filled with a variety of options such as buttercream, ganache or jam. Not to be confused with the American coconut macaroon, these cookies are a delicacy native to France but popular all over the world.
What makes Tredici Macarons different?
While many macarons that you find at a restaurant or bakery are professional quality, we’ve found that they lack authenticity and uniqueness which is exactly what Tredici Macarons prides itself in! Each cookie pair is filled with scratch made ingredients that are bursting with flavor. They can also be personalized to fit any theme. Tredici Macarons make each macaron by hand and does not cut corners in any way!
Why do macarons cost more than most cookies?
To start, macarons are not easy to make. Ask any baker or pastry chef and they will tell you just how finicky these cookies are. Beyond that, each batch takes a few hours to make depending on the flavor, color, design or even the weather! Once the batch is mixed, the macarons must rest so they dry before being baked. This ensures that famous crunchy outside shell. They are then matched up in pairs, have filling added to them and “mature” at a refrigerated temperature for 24-48 hours. All of this must be done before they are ready to eat, so the time and attention each one gets to make sure they are perfect is quite long and intense.
